Should We Believe the Hype about Agave Syrup

03/04/2010

Question:

Media advertisements and other outlets are spreading the word about agave syrup and it`s health benefits, but how much of the hype is true? Is agave safe for those who have diabetes or high cholestorol? Is there a guideline for how agave you can take in a day? Will the properties of agave change if you heat the product?

Answer:

While it may be safe, there is no significant evidence it is of any great value - mostly just hype.   I would expect any value to be lost if it is heated.
