Pulmonary Fibrosis

Dizziness in Late Stage IPF

04/14/2010

Question:

Is there any significance of dizziness related in the later stages of IPF? Can or is there any correlation from the use of remicade (prescribed for RA) to cause dizziness or vision blurring and IPF?

Answer:

Your treating rheumatologist would best address the question about Remicade. The most common symptoms of advanced idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis are cough and shortness of breath. Dizziness is not a common symptom but could occur if the blood oxygen level was very low (saturation below 88%).

If the oxygen level is not low, then other causes of dizziness that should be checked for include (side effects of other medications, low blood pressure, heart disease, dehydration, anemia, etc.)
