Combining Meds in an IM

04/21/2010

Question:

Can you combine IM benadryl, haldol and ativan into one syringe?

Answer:

No. Bendadryl (diphenhydramine) and haldol (haloperidol) are incompatible in the same syringe- a white precipitate will form. Benadryl and ativan (lorazepam) have not been tested for compatibility, so it would not be responsible to mix them.

Haldol and ativan may be combined in the same syringe.
