Blood Clot in Stomach08/31/2010 |
Can a large blood clot in the stomach be detected on a CT scan and can you have a bowel movement if you have ischemic bowel?
A clot can be detected on a CT especially if oral contrast is given. Often in an ischemic bowel there is initially bleeding which can actually stimulate the bowel. Depending on the site (level) of the eschemia, the bowel can continue to function and the patient may past gas and have bowel movements.
