COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease)

Foods High in Fat

09/28/2010

Question:

Does eatting foods high in fat everyday effect emphysemia?

Answer:

Thank you for visiting NetWellness and for your question. There are several issues that relate to nutrition in emphysema. With severe emphysema many people become thin and underweight because they use extra calories and spend energy just to breathe. For people in that situation, eating extra calories (not all fat calories) may be beneficial. However, most people with emphysema also have risk factors for heart disease, and in that case it is recommended to eat a lower fat diet.
