White Square Back of Tongue

07/16/2010

Question:

When I stick my tongue out all the way and use a flash light I can see a white square or mass in the very back where I can not get to and you can barely see it, and it does not cause pain.

Answer:

This may be a large taste bud (Circumvallate papilla) that is normal.  There should be several of these lined up in a "V."  Have your local dentist check it.
