Pharmacy and Medications

What would the effects be if you took st johns wort with norvasc.

Thank you for your question. St. John’s wort is an over the counter medication that is known for having many drug interactions. This is because of its effect on the body’s metabolism. St. John’s wort can decrease the concentration of Norvasc in your body. This can cause you to have higher blood pressure readings. It is essential to monitor your blood pressure daily if you are combining these medications. If you continue to take these medications together and your blood pressure is above your goal, you may need to discuss an increase in dose of the Norvasc with your primary medical doctor.

You may want to discuss alternatives to St. John’s wort with your primary medical doctor. Multiple medications and therapies can provide an effect equal to St. John’s wort, but do not have the large number of drug interactions.
