Gum Grafts/Bone Loss

I have been advised to get a gum graft( 2 arears) I recently cracked a tooth and was advised to get it extracted due to bone loss. If I have bone loss would it still be adviseable to do gum grafts?

I am assuming that gum graft surgery is recommended for another site and not the site scheduled for tooth extraction. If you have severe bone loss and the dentist recommended extraction because of this, he/she may be trying to improve aesthetics for upcoming restoration by recommending soft tissue grafting after extraction.
