Weakness in Hands

08/17/2010

Question:

I have rhuematoid arhtiritis and have alot of pain in my hands. I have lost alot of strength in my hands not just from the pain but the strength seems to be getting increasingly less. Is there any thing that I can do to get some of the strength back into my hands without adding to mcuh to the pain that I already have?

Answer:

It is difficult to make a recommendation because of different variables that may be coming into play with your rheumatoid arthritis. It is not atypical to see weakness accompany prolonged pain and swelling which then can lead to more pain because of the weakness.

I would recommend a visit to your local health care provider who could perform an individual assessment and determine the best treatment course to return some strength and function to your hands. Good Luck!
