Antibiotic Group11/12/2010 |
Hi guy, how many antibiotic groups are there? I found a new medicine call Pyostacine and it belongs to the group of Streptogramin and I have never heard of this group. Is it a new group of antibiotic?
Pyostacine is a brand of the antibacterial combination drug containing Quinupristin and Dalfopristin. The brand name of the product in the United States is Synercid.
This antibiotic is reserved for treatment of life-threatening infections caused by bacteria that are resistant to the standard antibiotic drugs.
This drug belongs to a relatively new class of antibiotics called Streptogramins.
There are numerous classes or groups of antibiotics. The link below offers additional information on antibiotics as well as antibiotic drug resistance.
