Urine Odor12/08/2010 |
My 10 year old daughter has a very strong odor in her urine and now has blood when she has bowel movement. What can cause this?
There are many causes for a strong urinary odor. In some cases the urine is strong, and can be corrected by drinking more water or other fluids. Another common cause is urinary infection, either bacterial or fungal. Foods such as asparagus and antibiotics can cause a temporary change in the odor of urine. In many cases no specific cause is apparent. I would suggest having her increase her fluid intake so that the urine color is more like water. Also, I would have a urinalysis, which is a laboratory evaluation of her urine.
