Bone Marrow Edema

12/12/2010

Question:

I have pain in my left shoulder/arm for 8 months now. An MRI revealed that I have: Supraspinatus tendinopathy; Subacromial-subdeltoid bursitis; Hypertrophic degeneratives changes of the AC joint and bone marrow edema in the distal clavicle. Can you explain what that means in a more simple language for me to understand? Thank You.

Answer:

These could just be changes related to the type of wear and tear you have put on your shoulder over the years. Any one of these things could be a significant finding if it is consistent with your symptoms, but it could also be insignificant if it does not match.
