50% Lung Scarring Prognosis 01/13/2011

Question:

If someone is diagnosed with scarring of the lungs that leaves the lungs at 50% functional, and this scarring is caused by a previous infection, like PCP pneumonia, what is that person`s life expectancy ?

Thank you for visiting NetWellness.  Pulmonary fibrosis can be widely variable in its behavior depending upon the pathology and other factors.  The patient should inquire with his/her physician regarding the specifics of their particular disease, if they can be known.
