Pneumonia with a Flattened Diaphragm
My elderly (82) mother has been diagnosed with pneumonia, has copd and a flattened diaphragm, will treatment with antibiotics at home be sufficient to pull her out of this bout with pneumonia? She is in a lot of pain.
Thank you for visiting NetWellness and for your question. I am sorry to hear about the condition of your loved one. The question you have is very specific to your mother's case and requires a physician with full knowledge of her condition, history and examination to make that decision. In general, antibiotics can be used to treat patients with pneumonia at home if the patient is stable from a breathing standpoint and is improving. Pain associated with pneumonia can be a sign of pleurisy.
