Newborn and Infant Care

Why possible pregnancy?

11/14/1997

Question:

When can a woman get pregnant??

Answer:

In order for a pregnancy to occur a woman must ovulate and sperm from the man must be present. The exact time of ovulation is unpredictable, even women with very regular menstrual cycles can experience delayed or early ovulation. Because of these irregularities and resulting ovulation it is difficult to predict exact times in which pregnancy can occur. If you think you might be pregnant you should seek out your health care provider or if it is time for your menstrual period, you could do a home pregnancy test, being sure to follow the directions exactly. If the test is positive you will need to seek immediate prenatal care from your health care provider.
