Fatigue

12/02/1997

Question:

I am six weeks pregnant, and feel extremely fatigued. I have been sleeping more than I did before I was pregnant. Why am I so tired?

Answer:

During early pregnancy many women experience fatigue. The cause of fatigue is thought to be due to the many hormonal changes that are occurring, and the increase in your basal metabolic rate that occurs with pregnancy. To help you cope with this tiredness you should be sure to get extra sleep at night, and try to nap or take rest breaks during the day. Eating a well balanced diet and getting regular exercise will also help you.
