Newborn and Infant Care

Smoking while pregnant

08/10/1998

Question:

I smoke and just found out that I am pregnant. I want to quit as soon as possible but I am having a difficult time doing so. My question is whether or not the patch is harmful for the unborn child. In other words if I use the patch as a tool to quit smoking am I still hurting my baby. I have been a smoker for 12 years and as I said before am having a very difficult time quitting.

Answer:

Because this question refers to the specific effects of a medication on pregnancy it has been referred to the pharmacy and medication expert. Check for your answer there in a couple of days.
