What are the alternatives to Tasmar in treating Parkinsons?
Tasmar acts by increasing the amount of levodopa entering the blood stream. The simplest alternative is therefore to increase the frequency and/or dosage of the Sinemet dose. Sinemet CR may be preferable in that it has less of a peak and trough effect. Other alterantives include dopamine agonists such as Parlodel, Permax, Mirapex or Requip. Entacapone is in the process of getting FDA approval. When approved it will also be an alternative to Tasmar as it acts by the same mechanism of COMT inhibition.
